MEET A HONEY POSSUM

The Honey possum is a tiny marsupial that lives in Noongar Country, the southwestern tip of Australia, and nowhere else in the world. The Noongar people call it ngoon-boon-goor (pronounced noolbenger). This roughly translates as ‘little one – that squeezes tight into blossoms’ [2]
Once widespread throughout the Wheatbelt, the Figure shows where Honey possums have been found. Today, there may still be relict (surviving) populations in National Parks and uncleared areas on farms, where banksias grow.

Classroom:
Wall space - Set aside a wall space in the classroom for a habitat model.
Word wall – The words used in science are new and should be displayed around the classroom for future reference. Research the common name and the Indigenous name and display together.
Encourage students to hear, say, and practice words. EAL/D students will need to oral language repetition to become confident in using new vocabulary.
Chat wall - Reserve a space for students’ comments throughout the program.
